24 And Living

Hi! My name is Eva Madarang, but you can call me Eva. I just turned 24 years old today! I consider myself as a world traveler, professional soccer player, content creator, amongst many other things. After I graduated high school and went to community college, I started to learn more about who I was and who I wanted to be. Soccer has been a huge part of my life, and it has guided me to where I am today, but there’s more to my life than just soccer. I wanted to start a blog to shared what my life consists of, and the many ups and downs I have gone through with each experience.

My time at Foot Locker was coming to an end when I received the opportunity to be able to tryout for the Soccer Philippines Women’s National Team around February 2017. When I was in high school, I attended training camps in California for the PWNT and nothing more. This time I had the chance to go to the Philippines to tryout for the senior team, it was such an honor. My dad came with me, to see his country after many decades, and long story short I made the team! To this day, I am able to travel and play against different countries with the team.

Majority of my life I grew up in California, just playing soccer and being an athletic kid. As I got older, I learned to enjoy the nature and scenic areas of California, like the beach, ocean, and mountains. When I get to go home, I enjoy hiking to the top of mountains or going to the beach and taking in the beauty of the nature around me. I always bring my camera or have my phone on me, because I can never get enough photos of how beautiful the area is.

I picked up photography when I was young and it evolved with me to who I am today. I am mostly self-taught, with some help from a couple of high school classes, but I taught myself how to use a DSLR camera manually when shooting, along with Photoshop and Lightroom for editing. Photography opened many doors for me, and it introduced me to my creative side and later to explore videography. This lead me to creating a YouTube Channel of my travels amongst other things. I have been given the opportunity to intern for my university’s athletic program, where I was able to create sports content for their social media pages and website. This made me realise how much I loved creating content with a camera and sharing them on social media.

Before covid, I was trying to play soccer professionally in England, but it took a turn in a strange direction. I ended up playing on a 4th division team up north, in the middle of nowhere. As well as working a few jobs for the club, including as a marketing assistant. At the beginning with soccer, the experience was rough. I lived by myself, I had teammates that hated me, and I WAS SOO COLD because of the weather! When COVID-19 hit in the beginning of 2020, things were actually picking up for me in England. But because of the lack of knowledge of COVID and the cancellation of the soccer season, I decided to go home at the end of March 2020. I came home to California with nothing to do during the pandemic, so I decided to make masks since it was in such high demand. Then for fun, I put them up on Etsy to see if anything would happen. To my surprise, the masks became such a hit, I sold over 300 to friends, family, and people all over the world. When things started to open up again, I decided to get a job at Dick’s Sporting Goods to make some money. Eventually, I had to stop making masks and I had to quit my job because…I WAS ABLE TO TRAVEL AGAIN!

As my time in Italy came to an end, I completed the Masters program, completed a soccer based social media & marketing internship, and finished playing professional soccer in Serie B. Unfortunately, certain circumstances didn’t allow me to continue the path I wanted to take in Italy. This allowed a new path to come forth, enabling me to continue playing soccer in Spain. Months prior to my departure, I needed to find a way to make money to pay for expenses, once again. I decided to try Doordash. To my surprise, I made more money on Doordash per hour than I made working at Dick’s Sporting Goods or Foot locker. Every time I go home I am going to Doordash to make some money for my next travel adventure.

Now being here in Spain I have so much to learn and take in. I’ve been wanting to play soccer in the country where my mother is from for a very long time. Coming to Spain I want to continue to expand my knowledge in soccer, as well as, learn the language and culture of the country. This 2021/22 season from August-May I have been blessed to begin a new journey in Spain!
